New research shows that many once-endangered bookstores are booming again. Between 2009 and 2015, more than 570 independent bookstores opened in the U.S., a 35 percent jump after more than a decade of decline. CBS’ Tony Dokoupil visited several independent booksellers where he found the rebound is about more than just books.

Brennan has two sons who are in high school. For her, the best thing about being a mom is “the amount of love that you didn’t realize you had in your heart,” she said. On the other hand, the downside of being a mom of teenagers is “dirty laundry on the bathroom floor all the time and a complete inability to realize that silverware goes in the dishwasher too,” she said.
